The State of Employment in America
Employers have not been hiring since the Recession of 2008.
The jobs available since the Recession hit have been predominantly high turnover, high stress call center jobs.
The declining job market since 2008 has left us with an ever-declining list of potential career fields, employers, and jobs to pursue.
This means that every potential job will have 100+ applicants, while simultaneously requiring experience no one would be able to attain apart from great connections.
This ultimately means that you can only realistically grab whatever low-hanging fruit is out there in the job market.
The reality of this labor market means you will ultimately have to work a dead-end call center, retail, or restaurant job, and ultimately go from bad job to bad job until you find something decent. Even that decent job may ultimately get worse as more job duties are added, customers and managers get worse, and you may ultimately be let go because of politics and bad management. Thus, you repeat the same job searching process yet again only to get whatever low hanging fruit you can find just to pay bills.
The spiral of bad jobs and your deteriorating mental health continues. This is the plight of the working class.
The sad thing is that pretty soon, no one will be working as the country's financial stability is becoming increasingly compromised.
Perhaps the most comforting fact in this entire mess of working in the post-Covid era is that nothing is certain, and that what we consider normal will no longer be the case sooner rather than later.
The Bottom Line
Whatever you do to find a job, don't get scammed in the process.
Don't apply aimlessly to every single job listed on Indeed. That is the absolute best way to lose your sanity.
Never put all of your eggs in one basket. Even if you accept a job offer, always anticipate that offer to be rescinded for any reason.
Always be looking for a job when you have one.
Always be updating your resume.
Don't give out too much info about yourself at work.
Don't poop where you eat.
Whatever you do, remember that it's just a job and doesn't define you.
Put in your 8 hours and get the hell out of there!
